I'm a graduate student working on a Masters in Museum Studies with an undergraduate degree in historic preservation, classics and museums studies who has a fascination with clothing from all periods in history. I've been sewing since I was 6 and my current historical focus is medieval, renaissance and Victorian. I've also made many fantasy/renaissance faire costumes and I've been recently dabbling with Steampunk (mainly because of my character in the Cirque de la Vapeur).
When sewing, I try to use as many as period resources, patterns and techniques as possible. But, as a moderately broke grad student, one has to be creative and thrifty to make great period looking costumes without selling an arm or a leg. :)
